Concierge Medicine & Preventive Healthcare: A Proactive Wellness Model at BIÂN
As Chief Wellness Officer of BIÂN, Mar Soraparu believes that true luxury in healthcare is not access alone, but intention. Her philosophy centers on proactive, deeply personalized care — designed to remove friction from the healthcare experience and restore agency to both patient and provider. Below, she shares her perspective on why prevention must become a lived practice, not just an agreed-upon ideal.
The tendency I have observed throughout my professional career is that most people wait for the loud, screaming symptoms before becoming motivated to act. Prevention — despite being universally agreed upon as the ideal — has become increasingly difficult to implement in real life.
When we look at this through the lens of medical care, the consequences become even greater. We live in a system that does not make prevention smooth, accessible, or intuitive. Instead, people wait. They wait through the small, nagging pain they hope will disappear. The bump they notice but choose to ignore. The lingering cold they try to ride out because they don’t want another rushed visit or another unnecessary antibiotic. And traditional systems only want to see you once the symptoms exist.
These small moments are where health is either protected — or lost.
They are also exactly what concierge medicine at BIÂN was built to solve: to give the power back to the individual and the provider to be health advocates.
I experience this personally and continuously. The beauty lies not just in access, but in integration. A physician who understands my full history and can immediately coordinate with an in-house Eastern medicine herbalist to support a cough or strengthen immunity — knowing I prefer this route — sometimes within minutes. A concerning bump evaluated quickly, eliminating months — or even years — of waiting and the anxiety that comes with uncertainty or, worse, a serious issue. Pain addressed simply by walking downstairs to a physical therapist before it becomes chronic.
And then there is the deeper work: prevention through understanding.
I asked my parents to gather our family health history, and together with Dr. Denise Au, we went line by line. Not rushed. Not transactional. A real conversation that created a full picture of my health — and more importantly, a proactive plan. We mapped which screenings begin at certain ages based on my mother’s history and established ongoing protocols addressing what is prevalent on my father’s side.
Nothing like this exists in the traditional system — not because physicians don’t care, but because time simply does not allow for it.
So we built BIÂN Medical to change that reality.
It saves time. It reduces anxiety. And in many cases, it can save a life.
Because prevention is not just about avoiding illness — it is about removing the quiet worry that lives in the background when questions about our health go unanswered.
Prevention is everything.
